The Air Force Association (AFA) is an independent non-profit 501(c)(3) professional military and aerospace education association led by volunteers at the National, Regional, State, and Local Chapter levels. AFA supports the Total Air Force Family: Active Air Force; Air Force Reserve; Air National Guard; Retired; AFROTC; AFJROTC; Civil Air Patrol.

The General Russell E. Dougherty Chapter 407, headquartered in Louisville with a satellite chapter in Owensboro, has approximately 400 members that encompass the Louisville metropolitan area, mid-central and western Kentucky and the I-71 corridor to Florence, KY.

AFA advocates for aerospace power and STEM education through STEM activities that excite, educate, and motivate student, programs include: CyberPatriot, StellarXplorers, Teacher of the Year and K-12 Educators Grants.
